what an awesome song by IZZ!

The accoustic part at the beginning reminds of of an SST indie group called Slovenly. Then it goes into some kinda early 80's Fripp sounding guitar thing. I love the 6/8 waltz feel. The synth solo near the end is well done. I have no clue what a "broken down messiah" is, but I really dig this tune. Everything works perfectly. Thanks Demetrio for bringing this great tune to light.

I'm also falling under the spell of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, but more on that later..

Yeah, that particular track has hit single (on some other planet) written all over it. Too strange for most palates, yet catchy as hell. There's a lot of Rush in that song too.

Van Der Graff requests and now IZZ boosting? Sleepytime Gorilla? You turning into progboy?
I've always had a little prog bloodJar

it's just that.. there's so much prog that makes me want to hurl that it takes a lot of effort for me to find the stuff I like.. and sometimes I don't "get it" on the first listen. you know how it is.

I don't see/hear what you guys do about this band.

They're OK but to me not much better than that.

Kind of like Spocks Beard.

And that Sleepytime Gorrilla Museum?

Urrgh. I'd rather hear Opeth.

I gots plenty of better prog for ya Jar Man.

It's a pop thingTroy
Jun 20, 2003 8:40 AM
Yes, IZZ iz like The beard. It's accessable melodic rock using those old 70s production sounds and tunings. These bands are in touch with their pop nature. They aren't afraid to let the quiet parts and melody show, they're not hiding behind fake hard rock bluster.

I've heard a couple of Sleepy Gorilla toons and I recall wanting to leave the room . . .
another great prog tune: "She's Moved on" by PP TreeRPM

I don't recall if I ever commented on this song that Dave G sent me awhile back. I REALLY like this tune, best thing I've heard from the Porky Boys. Thanks Dave.

It's always good to see some non-prog guys like Jar and RPM giving a positive feedback about prog stuff.

Hmmm, that's strange... Thinking better, I can recall now that it was our fellow DaveG. who should have sent you this, guess he forgot to do so :-)

I was listening to some Prog Blues the other day, and thought you would love that. Just trying to recall the band's name now... Sorry, I can't recall the name right now, maybe because I hated it...

You should try some Sleepytime Gorilla Museum one of these days, did you know?

Best prog wishes

Jun 20, 2003 7:09 PM
A man enters a restaurant and sees a beautiful girl alone at one table. The man remains a little shy, but after some time he goes there and says educatedly:
- Errr, excuse me, I saw you alone here and thought we could talk a little…
And the girl, shouting loud:
- What??! You #@%=/?&#-, crap, immoral, indecent, don’t even know myself and already want to invite me to f***??
- No, no, please, I didn’t say this, I just asked you…
- What, and you still insist offering me money for a f***?!! You obscene, go to hell!!
Everybody else looking at that scene, the poor man returns to his table there in the corner and stays there wishing there was a hole in the floor so that he could disappear. After some moments the girl stands up, goes to him and says:
- Excuse me for my reaction, I am a Psychologist and am doing a research about how people react in front of such embarrassing situation…
And the man, shouting loud:
- What??!! $500 for a f***?? No prostitute in the world is worth this price!!!

Hehehe
Please forgive my bad English again, ok?

I don't consider myself a "non-prog" guyRPM
Jun 20, 2003 5:35 PM
After all, I claim Yes, Pink Floyd (and at one time) Kansas as some of my favorite bands. I'm surely an old school progger, I just haven't been able to get into the recent stuff to anywhere near the level of the old stuff. As I've said before, I think it's more me (and my current lifestyle) that's changed, and not so much the music.
Even so, there are occasionally songs like "She's Moved On" that knock me out.

Hey, Jar, glad to know you are enjoying that IZZ tune, it's pretty awesome indeed.

Can hardly wait to hear your impressions about Sleepytime Gorilla, another personal favorite.

I see you are interested in Van Der Graaf Generator, feel free to ask me for some of this stuff if you don't get it from Barry.

Cheers

What?BarryL

Do I got a reputation or sumpthin'?

It may take a while for me to get around to it, but he'll get it, eventually.

I'm looking for a couple of things you may be able to help me out with.

I'm trying to put together a 1970 prog compilation, and I''m looking for something from Amon Duul II's YETI to add. Also, anything by Can from 1970? Any other obscure stuff from 1970 you may have? 1970 was on the cusp of prog breakthrough. It really starts to pick up after this, and by 1973, everyone was doing it.
What?Demetrio
Jun 23, 2003 8:31 AM
Hey, my friend, you know I didn't mean to attribute you any bad reputation, right? :-)

See what a coincidence, after receiving another great package from yourself last Friday (that great Steve Hackett stuff you kindly sent me), I started just working on some new comps for you, one of them including some German prog such as Amon Düül II, Can, Krokodil, Birth Control, etc. Since you need some 1970 prog, I'll provide this for you too.

Best prog wishes

Demetrio.
Kidding?BarryL
Jun 23, 2003 11:11 AM
Of course I was just kidding. ;-) See.

Actually, I now have a bit of Italian prog in my collection thanks to your great comps and tips, but as for the Germans, well, other than Triumvirat and Grobschnitt, not much else comes to mind (I consider Nektar to be British). So some Krautrock and bands like Birth Control, and Can and Amon Duul II, from the early 70s would be very welcome. Thanks.

As for those Hackett CDs, did they just arrive? I sent those ages ago. Wow.

Happy listening. If you don't have this on DVD, which is where I recorded it from, it is well worth getting. It's Steve Hackett Live Somewhere in South America. It was recorded in Buenos Aries.
I have some Amon Duul IIJar
Jun 23, 2003 12:35 PM
but it's PHALLUS DEI from 1969.

good stuff though.

-jar
Phallus Dei is great....Demetrio
Jun 23, 2003 12:51 PM
But so are the other Amon Düül II releases I have: Yeti, Carnival in Babylon & Wolf City.

I see you like some Krautrock, huh? I have already heard Can in one of your comps, and can also recall to have read you writting about Faust a time ago... In fact I got Faus IV based on your comment then, did you know?

Cheers

Demetrio.
Consider it done...Demetrio
Jun 23, 2003 12:56 PM
I have already started a sampler for you featuring tunes from some albums released in 1970 (including some Krautrock stuff too).

I loved this Steve Hackett stuff you sent me and will be looking for the DVD for sure, thanks for the tip.

Cheers
Demetrio.
