How many tracks on a single album can you listen to before you're ready to hear something else?PwrPopGuy

For my "short little span of attention" (quoting Paul Simon), I find that when I play an album by any one artist with the intention of hearing it from the beginning and playing it straight through, after about 7 tracks I'm ready to change discs and move to a different sound, a different voice or vibe. This may be somewhat less true with greatest hits comps or classic rock titles but with most any new music or cd's released in the past few years, I usually start to get antsy after about 7 tracks, and find that almost any album can be condensed down to that number if burned to a cd-r and not really suffer from it. (Of course, I realize there's exceptions - just not a lot). So, how's your album attention span and thoughts on this subject?
Just the opposite here..........tentoze

As a general rule, if I pull something off the rack, I want to hear the whole thing. Obviously, exceptions do happen- but usually only after mebbe 8-9 beers, when synapses start firing haphazardly. :]

This is why changers never had any appeal to me.

I will listen to the same new disc (in my car or my computer at work) at least 5 times in a row in order to make an initial judgement.

If I really like it (like the IQ/7th House I'm digging now) I can go 30 or 40 times in a row.

I guess I "over-analyze".

I have a 12-disc changer in my SUV -- some times I don't need to switch out the contents for 6 months.
I usually play a CD with the intent on listening.......DarrenH

to the entire thing. Now I may skip over a track or two but I usually play the whole thing. And if I'm in the mood I'll even play several in a row by the same artist or group.

For instance, I may play Stand Up from Jethro Tull then skip to something of theirs more recent like Roots To Branches then play something in between, say, Heavy Horses. I do this all the time with artists or groups that have many releases over long periods of time.

About 3 or 4, sometimes more, especially if I'm driving.Swish

Certain toons aren't suited to driving, so I skip right on by to the next one. If I'm having a party, I hit random play on my 5 disc carousel player and let them play out until someone makes a special request or complains about the music selections. First I have the the whiners drawn and quartered then I change the cds. When I buy a new cd I really try to listen intently to the entire disc at least one time, unless a track is so bad that I can't stand letting it play out.
usually an entire side of an LP or both sides.hifitommy
