This morning's music complements of Tug McMartinJDaniel

Got a package in the mail from my finger-picking friend from Coors country. It included two discs. I listened to one on the PC this morning, and the other in the car at lunch.

The first, <b>Acousticity</b>. A very solid collection of laid back, mainly acoustic guitar stuff. A lot of bands I've never heard of. I enjoyed it a bunch - good music for a Friday. My favs (after one listen) were the tunes from David Wilcox (Hurricane), Jackopierce (Woman as Salvation), Justin King (August Train, & Taps), and the Schuers (Believe, and Step Outside). I was familiar with Jackopierce from your <b>"Toast-n-Jams"</b> comps. I also enjoyed the songs from Stewart & Winfield, Acoustic Junction, and Acoustic Reserve. The only real dud was the Chris Yurchuck song "Karma". And I'd have preferred a different Billy Bragg song (only because I have 4 or 5 comps with "Ingrid Bergman" on them).

The 2nd was a compilation of <b>Nil Lara</b>. Very solid from top to bottom. Not a dud on this disc. A couple have a difinite Spanish/South American flair. The only tune I was familiar with was "Fighting For My Love". The opening track, "Baby", was a good tune, as was "I Will Be Free".

Thanks Tug for getting me musically through my Friday.

further that you enjoyed them upon first listen.

I was listening to Acousticity a couple days ago in the car and i had the same thought about the Yurchuck song. It is kind of a dud. Apparently i liked it enough at some point for me to put it on the comp, but its pretty generic sounding after a few more listens. As for the Billy Bragg tune... i can see your point there. I definitely wanted to get one of his tunes on there, but couldn't find any that really fit, so Ingrid Bergman won for its brevity.

Nil Lara is absolutely one of my favorites. Perhaps the most under the radar guy i know of that shouldn't be under the radar. Such a diverse sound IMO. A lot of it makes me think of Santana and Peter Gabriel mixed with the Who. Latino flavored rock. Too bad he's not done anything aside from his one album.
