| NP: eclectic Sunday morning mix | RPM Nov 9, 2003 7:49 AM | | Got the house to myself for awhile this morning, so I pulled the speeks out away from the wall and popped the following 5 discs into the carousel player. I'm shuffling away to as interesting mix of music thus far:
1) The Bach Variations - Windham Hill Sampler (modern takes on classical stuff using unconventional intstrumentation {unconventional for classical music that is}).
2) A3 - Exile on Coldharbor Lane (still digging this rave-rec I received from Mike H. Funky, gospel tinged, groovy stuff, which often reminds me of RL Burnside)
3) Scary Subjects - Finch's Hallowwen comp, Fun party stuff, which, as the title suggests, is only Hallowween related due to the lyrical content.
4) Nine Pair - Troy comp (only 3-4 songs in so far, but I've liked 'em all. I guess I should know this, since I'm a Soul Coughing fan, but Mitchel Froom sounds exactly like SC's lead singer. I'll check it out after I post this.
5) The Sundays - Blind (appropriate Sunday morning toonage, thanks Jim C!)
Anyone else spinning anything interesting? |
| Somethin' Else | Davey Nov 9, 2003 8:40 AM | | Canonnball Adderley, Miles Davis, Hank Jones, Sam Jones and Art Blakey. Classic Records 24/96 DAD. Just playing it in my computer right now while having some coffee and roaming the cyber space.
Picked up Badly Drawn Boy Have You Fed The Fish? and Bettie Serveert Palomine yesterday at the library along wih a few books so might give those a spin later. But I might just stay in this cool groove cause I've got some more Art Blakey on deck, Moanin' with the Jazz Messengers. Either that or Sonny Clark's Cool Struttin', also on DAD. Yeah, probably Sonny Clark next...it feels like a cool struttin' kind of Sunday. |
| What a Great Disc | MasterCylinder Nov 10, 2003 1:08 PM | | SOMETHIN' ELSE......I've got the 24-bit, RVG (Rudy Van Gelder) edition on Blue Note.
Simply awesome.
Love this music. |
| re: NP: Ramones-Pleasant Dreams (remaster +bonus tracks) | Jim Clark Nov 9, 2003 8:45 AM | | Ahh, nothing like the Ramones to turbo charge a Sunday morning. Boys are at Sunday School, wife at the store, me and Chase (big puppy) are jammin'. Chiefs play at noon so I'm just gonna skip church and fire up "End Of The Century" next. Obviously my BMG order showed up at long last.
This disc is great. It's tough getting used to bonus tracks on the Ramones albums. You think it's over-but it's not. Getting a big kick out of the alternate version of "Chop Suey" with Cindy Wilson, Kate Pierson (b-52's), and Debbi Harry on backing vocals. This is awesome baby!
Sunday morning-not just for warm beer and cold pizza anymore!

| Here's my morning brew | maf Nov 9, 2003 10:38 AM | | Let's see, started off with Groove Yard, by The Motgomery Brothers, next up Rae's CRSv7, I forgot about this comp after getting it, shouldn't have, a fine mix of styles and tunes. Then I put on British Sea Power, I'm loving this more and more with each listen, could well be my best-O-year. Finishing up with The Buzzcocks Singles Going Steady.
Probably going to go watch me some football now.
