| In honor of the jazz mini-renaissance the last coupla days.. | tugmcmartin Nov 10, 2003 8:01 AM | | Is anyone interested in another installment of the mystery review series? I have an artist who i'm fairly certain no one here has ever heard of before. This would fit solidly into the jazz category. I can burn some copies of the album and send them out for a blind review. To give you an idea of what you might expect, here's a quote from an album review:
"XXXXXXX blends the dark mystique of Miles and Masekela with the intricate dexterity (and humor) of Zappa. dangerous jams with ethno-trance grooves praised by DOWNBEAT..."
A little bit of everything, but not for everyone... though you never know... you might just like it.

I got the earlier jazz Mystery disc and to be honest wasn't a big fan, since I don't usually dig fusion stuff. Still, if you don't mind the possibility of my being less than thrilled, I'm always interested in hearing new things, and the ethno-trance grooves kinda catch my attention.
So, if you're willing to send to someone with a past record of being less than impressed, I'd be interested in giving it a try. |
| you're on the list... | tugmcmartin Nov 10, 2003 9:12 AM | | If you don't like it, you don't like it. I promise i won't be offended. I got one of the Jazz Mystery discs as well (hasn't there been more than one referenced on this board??? the one i'm thinking of was a Miles Davis fusion album), and wasn't that big a fan of it either. Was a little too out there for me. This one has elements of fusion but a lot of stuff that should appeal to the "purest" too. |
| Count me in | HYFI Nov 10, 2003 10:45 AM | | The other Mystery Jazz Disk was mine. It was Rite of Strings. Ponty, Dimeola and Clark. I'll take a stab at this one.

| yer in... | tugmcmartin Nov 10, 2003 3:09 PM | | Ahhh... i remember that one. I actually liked that one and remember a brief discussion of some other acoustic sounding jazz recordings (i think). Wasn't there another one with some Miles Davis stuff? Maybe JD did that one??? Or RPM? I'm getting senile in my young age.
