Oh, yeah, the article doesn't mention that Joey lived in a loft on 2nd St. off the Bowery for awhile (he later bought a more traditional apartment in a hi-rise on 9th St. off Broadway), which might have something to do with that corner being chosen, also (as opposed to the corner of 1st St.).
And as a relatively meaningless aside, from what I've read, I'd say it's not likely the Ramones played at CBGB 'within six months' of it having opened. It's pretty well documented that their first appearance there was in August 1974, while Television was said to have been playing there in 1973. But that's okay, Hilly's getting up there in years & might not remember, and what the hell, it's Rolling Stone anyway... |
