| CD player: AH! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 or Jolida JD 100 | sashe May 8, 2002 10:48 AM | | I am in the market for a tube cd player and am deciding between the AH! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 (which I have not auditioned but got great reviews) and the Jolida JD 100 (which I have auditioned and had great sound). I will be playing it with an NAD receiver and Tannoy S-10 speakers. Also, the Jolida appears to be $300 more.
Has anyone compared the two or does anyone have any feedback or insights on either? |

I already have tube power and pre amps, and so it seemed to be the missing link. Had the Ah! Tjoeb bought from the States and handcarried to the Philippines. I went for the upgraded version with the torroidal transformer and digital connection at the rear. Then, I put in 2 x Amperex PQ 6922 tubes. Lo and behold, the magnificence of the tube sound, indeed! It had an airy openess, detail, very natural sounding atmosphere with the system. My previous CD player was a Yamaha CDX-493 which once had good reviews in What Hi Fi, and still a more previous NAD 512. On A-B tests, the Ah! Tjoeb had a musical wholeness to it. The Yamaha was quick and fast but all of a sudden, I became aware of the wider air and more specific soundstaging placement. I am able to listen to engaging music without fatigue. I'm happy with it, and still use it as my primary player. Yes, it made a difference. |
