Adding tube amp to SS systemJohnD

I am considering adding a tube amp to my system. I currently use a Rotel 1090 to drive the mains and an Anthem MCA3 amp for the center and rears. My main interest is music, but I enjoy HT also. If I replace the Rotel with a tube amp, will it sound alright on HT? Are there other problems I need to consider? What recommendations as to the tube amp? Speakers are B&W N804's. Thanks for the advice. John

Tube amps give a big bang for their bucks when used with high definition speakers such as Magneplanars. The Maggies are thin-film planars with a simple resistive load. Some electrostats will also benefit from a tube amp, but a set of double KLH-9's I once fooled with showed no improvement.

So- try your desired tube amp with your speakers before you buy it, if you can. Sometimes the same amount of money on better speakers will get you a far greater improvement. I drive a pair of Magnepan MMG's with a Musical Fidelity A2 class A integrated SS amp and the sound quality is fantastic. Mind you, a tubie amp with the MMG's might be better.
