Just wondering if there is any advantage to going with tube output cd player to a solid state one sonically? Especially with a solid state amp running it.

My quick answer is NO.

You can buy a DVD player with the same CD chip that is in fancy "Name" CD players and often for less money than the fancy "Name" CD players, so why bother with the fancy CD players ?

I bought a Toshiba DVD player for $80 and it has a 192 MHz 20 bit CD chipset in it. If you 'pause' that Toshiba and then power it down, when you power it back up it picks up where it left off.

Its funny that as these chip-based digital components become more sophisticated they also become more equal in their performance, that is, DVD and CD players have almost reached interchangable status.
