Hello, found this cassette deck in my house the other day and I would like to know if anyone has now or has in the past owned this beast. My dad has owned it since new and I would like to learn more about it. I searched the internet but have turned up empty handed. It looks to be pretty high quality, and it is built like a tank. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I will try to get a pic of it soon.

-thanks

Hi Geoff:

I dont own one but it is listed in the October '76 Audio Magazine Directory issue with a photo that I have. I see that it is a top-loading design. The Audio mag lists all the hi fi manufacturers and their models in various categories (amps, preamps, etc) with their specs. The one you have is among about 10 other cassette decks Akai made then. The model at the top of the Akai list as shown in the mag is the GXC-760D. I thought this would mean it would be the top of the line but the list price for it is (was) $595 whereas the 570D is $800. I checked another Stereo Buyers Guide I have from early '78- the 760D is in there and the brief review on it is very favorable but I dont see the 570 listed there, dont know why. The 760D is a front loading design I see with 3 motors and 3 heads.
