| Pre-out to amp question | PeteH Apr 7, 2001 5:28 AM | | Hi! I recently got an absolutely gorgeous Pioneer SX-1050 receiver (ca. 1974-1976?). Powerful, smooth and warm! Excellent tuner section. Anyway, I have never used pre-outs and wonder if I use the pre-out to one of my amplifiers (to drive a separate pair of big speakers), would I ALSO be able to drive a second pair of speakers with the excellent amp section of the 1050?
BTW, last night I also won an ebay auction for a "mint, as new" Kenwood KR-9400! Jeez, I'm an old stereoholic!
Thanks, Pete |

Pre-out to main-in jacks allow you to insert a processor/EQ type of component between the preamp and the amp, as well as to use another amp, if you prefer, in your system, driven by the 1050's preamp section. If you love the sound quality of the 1050 as it is, you might not gain much by using another amp. However, it can't hurt to try! You could use "splitter" RCA jacks to send the signal to another amp, then back to the receiver, to drive a remote speaker pair, or to bi-amp speakers you now have. |

I do a three way 'Y' split to route to the various components in my retro system. Good luck on the KR you aquired. I know I am still very impressed with the KR-9600 I found. Tons of power and a VERY impressive sensitive FM tuner section. Kenwood doesn't get the 'press' here that Marantz, Sansui & Pioneer does, but I feel the competition in the vintage era brought the best out of most of the main stream companies of the time.
Enjoy
