| turn a stereoamp into a monoblock ???? | Magnus Apr 12, 2001 3:20 PM | | Is it possible to take two stereoamps (quad 303) and turn them into monoblocks???
I am not the worlds greatest when it comes to electrics and stuff, but it strikes me as better if it is one amp/speaker instead of one amp driving the treble and one the bass, but then i might be wrong :-)
ANY i stutter AAANNNNYYY info is more than welcome
Thanks ++++++/magnus. |
| Bi-Amping??? | moon Apr 12, 2001 4:07 PM | | Hi Magnus - I'm not sure if I understand the question or not, but if you want to run each speaker from a seperate amp, I just read an article on bi-amping.
Check it out. It's towards the bottom of this article.

Generally if an amp is not designed for bridging you can do it if you rig a remote turnon switch...put on a helmet and eyeprotection and get back pretty far preferably in the next room. At the very least you'll destroy both amps and possibly the speakers also.
All kidding aside...the Quads are great amps and you could get a bigger bang if you biamp your system with them. You will need a good quality electronic crossover and speakers that are bi ampable.
Before you try to blow up the house look back here becacause I will check the specs on the 303's and see what they will do.

You may do a conversion to "non inverting" on one of the amps to make it a bridge amp. This will take the skill of a very experienced tech and preferably someone familiar with the Quad construction.
These amps were designed specifically for the Quad ESL's and the bridged configuration would probably wreak havoc with those electrostatics so Quad did not make any provision for it.
I don't recommend it because they are a fabulous vintage amplifier and I don't believe you should destroy the integrity of them. If you need more power do the biamp thing or buy a different amp because the 303 will be lucky to get 30wpc or for me the best solution if you don't need to rock the house is get a pair of Quad ESL's and enjoy some of the finest sound ever to come out of the world of audio...but not very loud.
