Yet another newbie question...2channel

So, there I was in a local thrift shop when I saw an old console type stereo. I looked in the top, turntable and a tuner (W/flywheel tuning knob). It's made by sears. It looked really old so I looked on the back and saw 140W. By noe Im thinking... Boy this might be kind of cool. I went as far as to open the back up and WOW...TUBES!! TUBES everywhere...In the tuner, in the turntable, and of course there is a tube amp. Can these things be canabalized and used alone? Can I perhaps build a new case and use the Amp and Tuner? Is this a quality Tube Amp? It sure looks cool! Thanks again in advance for all the help with my new...Hobby...Uh...Lifestyle...Uh OBSESSION!!!!!!!

And I would have to guess that the Sears Console was not exactly high fidelity gear.
Might make an intresting project to get yourLefty

feet wet with tubes, but:

As stated Sears was not top of the line stuff, most of the cost was put into the woodwork I bet.

Caution would be needed to repackage the electronics as the shock hazards are real with tube equipment.

On the plus side I bet you could find an old SAMS manual for the unit that would have all the schematics and wiring info you might need.

Good luck and let us know what happens it you do proceed.

I don't think Sears made it so look for clues..do a list of all the tubes and their #'s and how many of each you have. See who made the speakers. Usually the dept store stuff was just cheap and not worth the trouble. But if it was built by a good company who knows...maybe EICO, Fisher or Scott could be great sounding
