Vernier tuner is 0.4 KHz offLigart
Apr 22, 2001 5:36 PM
My NAD 4020B's pointer is 0.4 KHz off (e.g. 94.1 tunes in at 93.7). I opened it up and found the pointer glued securely to the string, so it didn't "drift" that way. I could unglue the pointer, reposition it, then glue it again. However, is there some pot I can adjust to make the tuner itself match the dial?

a seemingly dumb question from me but what are you using for an antenna?

only reason for dumb question is some people get fm broadcasts from their catv and these stations are tuned up .5khz so as not to interfere with the actual rf broadcast....

It's a regular antenna, not cable.

Assuming the 'offset error' is linear (same .4khz error at both ends of the scale) the least intrusive adjustment is to loosen the set screw(s) holding the dial string main hub located at the main tuning capacitor and then turn the tuning control (station should not change as the hub should be slipping on the main tuning shaft) until the dial pointer agrees with the known frequency of the station. Retighen the set screw on the tuning shaft gently and recheck after moving the main tuning control back and forth.

The main reason for pointer drifting over time is tension changes in the dial cord over time. I would not recommending trying to change alignment via the capacitor oscillator trim controls as that could cause a loss of proper tracking of the various RF stages of the tuner front end circuits.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks, I didn't notice the set screw. Fixed it right up!
