Recently acquired this unit. Didn't really know what I had until I started searching the net for an operators manual. Have noted some concern about channels dropping out. Take it this is an inherent problem with these units. The left channel on this unit often doesn't come on when you turn the unit on and occasionally will drop out. I've found that tapping the unit just above the selector switch always brings it back. My guess would be a loose or dirty connection which I can handle. Is this problem a sign of a more serious condition or should I just be getting out the tools. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are 2 possibilities that come to mind:
1. A dirty switch; clean all switches with contact cleaner.

2. Speaker relay needs to be cleaned. If cleaning the switches doesn't work, locate the relay and wiggle it. If the channel comes back on, you need to rmove the relay,(desolder it) open the cover, carefully so as not to break it. Then lightly clean the contacts with 0600 grit sandpaper. then clean any debris off with alcohol or non-residual contact cleaner. Check the resistance of the contacts with an ohm meter holding the relay closed manually. Should be real close to zero ohms. Replace the cover, solder the relay back in and you're done.
