From what Ive been reading about marantz speakers, Ive either got myself fooled, or I got an exception. I have a pair of Marantz Imperial 5's from the 70's, and I think that they sound pretty good. I dont really know what other, more hifi speakers sound like, or how they sound better, but I do know know what real music sounds like, being a concert junkie, a jazz bassist, and a cellist in an orchestra, and I've been on the front lines and backstage more times than I can remember. I think these speakers do a pretty good job of reproducing good sound. Its a system on a budget, and nothing to brag about, but Im running a marantz pm7000, a Harman/Kardon cdr-20, and an old technics sl-b2. Anybody have anything else to add about these speakers?

When I first listened to them I wasnt expecting much, considering technological advancments since the 1970's, but I was rather surprised to find a pretty full sound coming from them, and the lack of some bass is easily reproduced by a very hifi bass amplification system I have, with a very close to flat frequency response.
I remember them well as good sounding units, alsoSoundman

The old Large Advents and small Advents were highly thought of back then (I was in college and could not afford any of them).
Some other things your post tells me about you:
1. You have an ear for good sound
2. You know and like good music
3. You are happy with the sound of your system
4. You Are also way ahead of most of us who are always changing their systems in search of some sound we think is better than what we have on our bodget
5. You have a great vintage system to listen to
