| MONSTER cable alpha plus | hifitommy Apr 5, 2003 11:18 AM | | moving coil stepup pre-preamp. this is for using an existing phono section with a low output mc cart. inside, there are two of what seem to be rechargeable batteries. unfortunately, there seems to be no identifying marks that indicate their voltage or other specs. the ONLY markings are: H4 85 42 +. there are clips on the ends to solder these things into the unit with and they were held in with silicone glue.
the unit sat for so long unused that the batteries must not want to charge anymore.
it would be ideal if someone had the service manual or even an identical unit that they could measure the voltage of the batteries on. these batteries are the size of AA 1.5v batteries but who knows WHAT their specs are.
i would really like to use this unit with my arc sp3c as i like the sound of it a lot. it seems that these items were used with the monster alpha 1000s & 2000s and may be out there on decent numbers.
any ideas guys? thanks in advance.

Measure the voltage across the clips with a DC voltmeter with the unit powered up, that will tell how much charging voltage the unit is putting out, it shouldn't be much higher than the battery voltage. If there is no voltage, disconnect one clip and try it again. If there is still no voltage, then there is another problem. Hopefully there will be 3-5 volts DC at the clips. Thats a start. |
| thank you sam. | hifitommy Apr 12, 2003 1:37 PM | | i will have to try this measurement. i truly appreciate your response.
