| JBL L212 What to do? | popup Sep 13, 2003 8:34 PM | | Bought a set of 212's at a yard sale $30.00. Would like to build a system around these, would like pioneer. Something in the same period as the 212's (1977) Any ideas?
thanks |

large voice coils and magnet assemblies. You
need to make sure you have plenty of power
to drive them. One Pioneer receiver I can
personally recommend would be the SX-1250
this was part of their 1977 receiver line.
It was top of the line model that year. Its 160 watts
per channel. I've owned one of these for about 5 years.
I've had several receivers over the years but this
is the one I keep going back to.
Hope this helps. |

Ive changed my mind on the era. The Yamaha 85 has some good reviews and plenty of power, parts still being made, in my price range.
The pre amp is the thing now. Passive, non-passive??? No idea. Dont need A/V jacks, just plan on listening to cds and a little FM.
Once again, thanks for your suggestion.

Just bought a phase linear 2000 off ebay. Guess I am going vintage. Will the phase linear 200 or 300 amp work ok.
Dazed and confused

is the way to go with these. You wont get
the full potential out of these or any other
good speaker for that matter running a low
power receiver or amp. |
| By the way let me know how they sound.(nt) | glen65 Sep 21, 2003 4:29 PM | | |
| By the way let me know how they sound.(nt) | popup Sep 21, 2003 4:51 PM | | Glen65, thanks for your input and you'll be one of the first to know. It may be awhile, still have to find the amp and do some repairs on the 212's. I'm going to attempt the surround replacements myself.
Now, if can just keep the wife from locking me out of ebay |
| re: JBL L212 What to do? | weebe5083 Sep 26, 2003 3:34 PM | | Hello. I am using a Pioneer A-88x integrated amp to power my L-212's. It might be difficult finding one of these amps but well worth the effort. Between it and my PD-65 CD player, the L-212's really sing. If you choose a Pioneer receiver instead be sure to remove the metal jumpers on the back (pre out/amp in)and replace them with a high quality pair of interconnects. It will make quite a difference in the overall sound produced. Have fun with your JBL's as they are very nice sounding/looking loudspeakers and a rare find especially at the price you paid. |

Would you happen to know where to find the 066 tweeters. I may need one.

| re: JBL L212 What to do? | weebe5083 Sep 28, 2003 5:31 PM | | Hello. JBL still sells the diaphragm/voice coil assemblys necessary to rebuild the 066 tweeters. The downside is that they are expensive. If I remember right, they sell for around $175 apiece. When I checked on these about a year ago they also had a few complete NOS 066 tweeters available. Try calling the JBl parts department. Hope this helps. |
