| In search of new Yamaha KXW 421 Tape Deck" | Jeffrey N Sep 25, 2003 6:45 AM | | Does anyone know where I can find a new Yamaha KXW-421 Tape Deck (the last high quality double cassette deck manufactured by Yamaha) in the Greater Toronto Area?
Was ready to buy a demo a few months back from a store in Toronto, but when the salesman lied and told me the unit is still being manufactured and he gets a few in every week to justify his asking price of close to Manufacturer's List Price(the thing has been discontinued since 2000), I decided not to buy from that place on principle. I don't like being lied to!
In any case, would appreciate it if someone knows where I can find one, or maybe a more up to date cassette deck from another manufacturer of comparable quality.
Maybe you think I'm crazy to be looking for a good tape deck in today's digital age, but I have more than 600 cassettes, which I have acquired over the years before I went "CD", including some very unique recordings, which are now sitting in boxes and getting moldy, and which I want to play for my children. I treasure my cassette collection and it would be a shame if I had to sell or donate them somewhere. SO I NEED A GOOD TAPE DECK TO GO WITH MY YAMAHA RXV 2095 RECEIVER AND MY B&W 600 SERIES II SPEAKERS.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your responses.

I have bought 2 Nakamichi decks in excellent condition in the last 6 months for less than $40 each. I recently saw a Yamaha KX 393 with a "Buy It Now" price of $30. Last year I got a nice KX 540 for $10 and a 3-head Sony in mint condition for less than $50. The prices of mid-line decks in good condition are very low now that the medium is considered virtually obsolete by the mainstream. There is a treasure trove out there waiting to be scooped up for a song (pun intended). |
