Here's a report on the Proton 300/301trollgirl

Some time ago, I reported on good results I had using some rather fat interconnects from my CD player to the 300. That was on the cable forum, as I had seen the light that cable does matter, though I could find no reason why another cable sounded better in that application than one which had always delivered the goods before.

Later, I got the 301 extension speaker hooked up. It is just like the 300, but minus the tuner/preamp module which hangs on the side of the 300. There is a switch on the bottom of the 301 which controls the input sensitivity, and I had thought that it had to do with the signal level which turned on the 301 - it's an active speaker. No, it determined how loud the unit played. So now, both channels are equally loud, and I sit in bed listening, with a speaker about a foot and a half from each ear. It's wonderful - like good headphones without the discomfort... Detail and dynamics are really excellent and my main system begins to fade in my interests. Good gear!
